Velokhaya was delighted to have Phil Liggett and his wife Trish as guests of honour at the inaugural Canal Walk Reconciliation Cup. The event was held on December 16, South Africa’s ‘Day of Reconciliation’ and attracted the ‘Who’s Who’ of BMX cycling in South Africa.

The NBMX Commission Congress took place on February 16th, and the following candidates were elected for a period of two years.

It’s quite pertinent that have a newsletter going out on today’s date for an international event taking place here in South Africa later this year as it was on this date 20 years that Nelson Mandela was released from prison and South Africa’s journey to becoming a proper democracy and a fully fledged member of the international community began in earnest. Without the actions of the people those years ago, we would not be in a position to have international competition in this country, so we salute them all.  

Gauteng are pleased to announce that we have a further track on board, namely the Bionic BMX Club.  The bmx track is situated at The Chapel Church, 3 John Vorster Road, Weltevreden Park.

With that said, I am attaching a revised calendar which reflects all Bionic's club races.  Yes, they will be hosting all their events on a Saturday so we encourage all riders to support this club so they too can grow from strength to strength.

It’s that time again…… this BMX event will be hosted at the Crashsite Track in Strandfontein on Saturday 28 November.

It will be a baptism of fire as this is a virgin track that has just been completed and needs your tyres to bring it into existence :)

Registration is from 07h30 till  08h30.

Directions: From Vanguard  Drive, Turn right into Spine Road, left into Moray Way,(the one after the SAPS office), left into Camp Road, BMX site will be at the end on the left.

From Strandfontein Rd, Turn left onto Spine Road, right into Moray ( just after the sports field), lelft into Camp Road.

The next installment of the WC BMX series takes us to Delft. This is the official opening of the City of Cape Town sponsored track. It would be fabulous to see you all there. I know the weather looks grim but it is expected to clear.  The City is sponsoring some prizes and loads of goodies, so don’t miss out.

It with great pleasure that we announce the second annual event to be held at the Velokhaya BMX Oval in the form of the Canal Walk Foundation Reconciliation Cup. The event will be held on 16 December at the Velokhaya BMX Oval in Khayelitsha and entry is free to all participants.
