MTB Challenge 2010

(Stellenbosch, 7 March 2010) Approximately 4,500 riders battled it out in this weekend’s Cape Argus Pick n Pay MTB Challenge. The 2010 MTB Challenge will certainly be remembered for its unbearably hot conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 42’C on today’s 35km and 55km routes.

KLEINHANS AND MUNNIK CLAIM WINES2WHALES TITLE

Top South African mountain bikers Erik Kleinhans and Oliver Munnik walked away with the championship title in the overall men’s category of the inaugural Wines2Whales mountain bike race on Sunday, 15 November 2009.  They completed the three-day stage race in an awe-inspiring combined time of 10hours41minutes35seconds.

Arran Brown wins the Cycle Challenge

The Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge brought JoBurg to a halt on Sunday Morning as thousands of cyclists took to the streets! The 25000 riders were spearheaded by the first finishers of the elite race, Arran Brown of Team Medscheme won a tight sprint from Malcolm Lange (Team Medscheme) and Christoff van Heerden (MTN Energade).

Jay Thomson and Reinardt Janse van Rensburg claimed the Elite and u23 Time Trial titles at the African championships in Windhoek, Namibia, while Cassandra Slingerland and Lynette Burger followed their earlier example, by the two top spots on the podium as well.

SA wins the TTT at the African Champis

South Africa won the Team Time Trial at the African Cycling Championships in impressive style on Wednesday when they finished nearly three minutes ahead of second placed Namibia. The South African team, consisting of Jay Thomson, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Ian McCleod and Christoff van Heerden, completed the 40,40km time trial in 50 minutes 4 seconds, at an average speed of 48,42km.

THOMSON and DE GROOT WIN MTN OFM

Jay Thomson and Robyn de Groot won the men and women’s titles respectively at the MTN OFM Classic, the Free State’s biggest road cycling race, on Sunday, but it was Arran Brown and Jennie Stenerhag who left Bloemfontein with green jerseys on their backs as leaders of the 2009 Alpha Pharm Seeding Series.
